Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers growing in strength within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of characters who will split off from the central cast to begin their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might appear mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team knows exactly where to head next after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • The strong character and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as important members in House Halovar could enable the group access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This means them no alternative but to head to Timmony in search of the traitor.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Questers and Schemers parties.

Fans can anticipate learning which characters will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
